Labs, lecture halls, and classrooms for the Atkinson Physician Assistant Program are found throughout the UC San Diego La Jolla campus/School of Medicine at the following locations:
This technologically-advanced building includes a simulation hospital with operating rooms, emergency rooms, intensive-care units, and exam rooms, each fitted with cameras and two-way glass. On the second and third floors, classrooms are organized around community learning rooms, an IT suite, and a student lounge. The comprehensive facility also includes a gross-anatomy lab and a 359-seat auditorium.
Located in the Medical Education-Telemedicine Building, the Simulation Training Center occupies over 2,500 square feet divided among 4 simulation rooms, including a hospital ward room, emergency or intensive care unit room, operating room, and a procedural training room. Activities are supported by our simulation operations specialists, medical director, simulation education director, and special projects personnel.
BSB is a 6-story laboratory/research building located in the School of Medicine section of campus. It includes the Biomedical Library, Gross Dissection Labs, Medical Teaching Labs, and the Dean's Office.
The Medical Teaching Laboratory (MTL) sits within the Biomedical Sciences Building, and provides educational laboratory support to the School of Medicine and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The teaching spaces are multifunctional and are configured for different courses as the curriculum changes throughout the academic year.
Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health is a 364-bed advanced medical center that is home to inpatient care, surgical facilities, outpatient clinics, a blood bank and a pharmacy. It is connected to Perlman Medical Offices and includes Thornton Pavilion, an inpatient facility formerly known as Thornton Hospital. It is within walking distance of Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, Shiley Eye Institute and Moores Cancer Center.
The UC San Diego Health Hillcrest campus is a critical regional resource with a Level 1 Trauma Center, Regional Burn Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. It provides care for all patients in the community including those who are uninsured and under-insured. Approximately 5,000 nurses, doctors, technicians, staff and administrators serve the needs of the community at the location.
At the Center for the Future of Surgery (CFS), surgeons and scientists are advancing surgical techniques by investigating, developing, testing, and teaching procedures that are revolutionizing the field of medicine. Since opening in 2011, the CFS has trained more than 20,000 individuals-from residents and medical students to surgeons, nurses, and industry partners- making it one of the largest and most comprehensive surgical simulation facilities in the world.
The Standardized Patient Program provides realistic practice opportunities in a simulated environment where it is safe to make mistakes and learn from them before working independently with real patients. It is an educational resource providing opportunities for clinical skills learning and assessment across the spectrum of undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education.
